Swami Vivekananda Birthday Celebration
The Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago celebrated the birthday of Swami Vivekananda on January 12, which is traditionally observed in India as "National Youth Day." A group of young devotees of the Society shared their perspectives on Swamiji with love and respect. Despite the heavy snowfall, about 150 devotees attended the program. Attendees enjoyed hearing how the youth of today, born and brought up in the US, reflect on Swamiji's life and teachings. Swami Ishatmananda presided over the program and presented souvenirs to the speakers. There was a 16-item ritual worship of Swamiji, and devotees enjoyed Swamiji's prasad (lunch) after offering flowers to him.
